About the English-Speaking Union
At the ESU, we believe that strong communication builds confidence, connection, and understanding — qualities the world needs now more than ever.
Founded in 1918 to foster international dialogue and cooperation, today we equip young people with oracy skills — speaking, listening, critical thinking, and self-expression — to help them thrive as engaged citizens and future leaders.
Volunteering
We always love hearing from passionate speakers, debaters and supporters of our work.
Volunteer with us and help create the empowered and connected world you want to see.
Safeguarding
The ESU is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks, which may include a satisfactory Enhanced criminal record with Barred List check through the Disclosure and Barring Service. Read our safeguarding policy here.
I took part in ESU competitions throughout school and I really wanted to give back and become a mentor myself
